What we treat, and the treatment that fits it.
Richmond Brain & Behavior is organized around what works for which condition. Each condition below links to the interventional treatment most often used for it. When more than one option fits, Dr. Beasley helps you choose.
Depression & treatment-resistant depression
If standard antidepressants haven't gotten you well — roughly two or more adequate trials without adequate response — there's a next tier. Deep TMS (H1 coil) and Spravato are both FDA-cleared/approved for this and work through mechanisms different from oral medication.
OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
OCD that hasn't responded well to medication and therapy has a real interventional option here: Deep TMS with the BrainsWay H7 coil, FDA-cleared specifically for OCD. Uncommon among Richmond TMS clinics, which are usually depression-only.
Anxiety
Anxiety is often treated alongside depression and frequently responds to good general psychiatric management. Where it's intertwined with treatment-resistant depression, interventional options may be relevant. Dr. Beasley evaluates the full picture, not one symptom in isolation.
PTSD
PTSD is managed within general psychiatric care, with medication management and coordination with therapy. Where co-occurring treatment-resistant depression is present, the interventional toolkit may come into play. Treatment is individualized.
Late-life / geriatric depression
Depression in older adults can be harder to treat and more sensitive to medication side effects, which makes a non-pharmacologic option like Deep TMS worth considering. Care is tailored to medical complexity and the medication interactions common later in life.
Bipolar disorder
Bipolar disorder is managed with careful psychiatric medication management. Interventional treatments are used selectively and cautiously in this context — exactly the kind of judgment call that benefits from a physician who knows the patient.
Opioid use disorder
Treated with medication-assisted treatment (MAT) — buprenorphine (Suboxone) or monthly Sublocade — by a board-certified addiction medicine physician, alongside any co-occurring depression or anxiety. Confidential under federal law.
Alcohol use disorder
Managed within the practice's addiction medicine and psychiatry care, including FDA-approved medications where appropriate and coordinated treatment of co-occurring conditions.
